Zoom webinar in english: «With the Bible in Babel: Bob Dylan as Interpreter of Scripture» by Professor Reidar Aasgaard

From Bob Dylan’s first album in the early 60’s to the recent ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways’, the Bible has been a major inspiration for his song lyrics.

The lecture will present the development in Dylan’s use of the Bible, and address which biblical texts and motifs he places particular emphasis on. What kind of picture of God emerges? And of Jesus? And why do the Bible’s apocalyptic ideas have such a large place in the songs? This will be discussed with the help of music samples and a selection of representative lyrics. The lecture will be given by Reidar Aasgaard, professor at the University of Oslo.
