Zoom webinar in English: «To what extent are Bible translations governed by theology?» by Associate Professor of Religion Morten Beckmann

27. mai 2021 @ 18:00 - 19:00

Free

No translations are made in a vacuum. Bible translations will always be influenced by the context in which they are created. Traditionally, Bible translations have been closely linked to theology and church interests. For the church, it is important to find legitimacy in the Bible for its interpretation, and Bible translations then become a central medium for justifying the church’s teachings. In this webinar, we will take a closer look at the Norwegian Bible Society’s translations 1959–2011 in a selection of Christological texts. What interests govern the translation choices? The lecturer, Morten Beckmann, is Associate Professor of Religion at the University of Agder.

The presentation will be on Zoom Webinar, a service for seminars and other public events online, where only the speaker will appear and be heard. None of the participants will be visible. After the lecture, there will be a questions and answers session.

The talk is free of charge and in order to see the talk on Zoom you will need a link that you will receive by email after registration. Click here for Webinar registration.
