There are several famous vehicles whose names are inspired by the Bible, including several of the most famous ships in history: the Santa Maria, one of three ships the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus took with him on his voyage to America, the Jesus of Lübeck, a merchant ship owned by Henry VIII of England, and the São Gabriel, the flagship of Vasco da Gama’s first voyage to India in 1498, all bear biblical names. Several modern ships have also received names from the Bible, such as the British battleship HMS Goliath and the American ocean liner SS Saint Paul.
In addition to ships, there are also trains, airplanes, and cars with biblical names, including General Electric’s diesel locomotive GE Genesis and Hyundai’s mid-range car Genesis.
The Genesis and Genesis XL are light aircraft developed by the American airline SlipStream. The Genesis and Farman F.60 Goliath are French passenger aircraft designed in 1919.
In 2019, the Israeli aerospace and defense company Israel Aerospace Industries launched an unmanned space probe called Beresheet, Hebrew for “in the beginning.”
